Jimmy's Favorite Recipes

To this day, some of Jimmy's favorite reading mateials are cookbooks. He does all the cooking and all the kitchen cleanup at home. You better not mess with one of his pans or implements! His fantastic meals are based upon recipes he "conjures up" and serves by candelight with wine and good conversation.

Periodically, Jimmy will post a recipe on this page for y'all to try.

Dish:   Sauerbraten Short Ribs
Ingredients:   
  • 6 short ribs (two or more lbs)
  • One large onion, sliced
  • 1 tsp. or more of cardamom
  • 6 cloves of garlic
  • Chianti wine—about 2 cups total
  • Beer—add until tender—at least one can
Directions:   
  1. Brown six short ribs thoroughly in a little bit of olive oil.
  2. Cook the short ribs with the onion, garlic and cardamom.
  3. Add the liquid a little at a time.
  4. Continue to cook until the ribs get tender.
  5. When the liquid gets cooked down, remove the ribs from the pan.
  6. Take some of the fatty liquid from the pan.
  7. Stir in a tablespoon or more of flour to thicken the sauce.
  8. Serve the ribs with sauce spooned over the top.
  9. These ribs are great with a salad and French bread.
