Most people know Jimmy as a multiple-platinum selling artist with the
String-A-Longs. But some of his best work has been done outside of the
String-A-Longs. Not only is he a great guitarist, but he is a composer
who has had five tunes that have been million-plus selling hits; He is
quadruple threat: great guitarist, composer, lyricist, and performer.
"Freighted with steel guitars, mandolins,
and tinkling piano ripples, Uncommon Man spools right
back to the days when country music really was country
music."
Uncommon Man is Jimmy's latest album. He recorded it in Branson, MO in
1989. It was produced by the late Bob Milsap. It was not released at
that time because of the serious injuries Jimmy suffered. It was prepared
for release in 1998 which never happened. It is just now being officially
released. This album has a country flavor, but Jimmy says it can't be catergorized--it
is in a genre of itof its own. It is a intensely personal album, reflecting
Jimmy's life experiences.

Reviews: "Uncommon Man" Jimmy
Torres (Evaristo Records)
Here's what TLM reviewer Beverly Paterson says:
"Armed with an impressive pedigree, Jimmy Torres
not only held the role of lead guitarist of The
String-A-Longs--a Plainview, Texas band whose instrumentals
from the early sixties still yield positive responses--but
he was also an original member of The Cobras. The latest
venture from this veteran performer finds him all dressed up
in traditional country and western wear.
Freighted with steel guitars, mandolins, and
tinkling piano ripples, "Uncommon Man" spools right
back to the days when country music really was country
music. Organic production values joined by economical hooks and
arrangements energize these pithy tunes. Jimmy's raspy, lonesome
vocals are fully emphatic to the themes of his thoughtfully written
songs. Like a seasoned storyteller, he has a peaceful, relaxed manner
that gains the trust of the listener. Earnest and easygoing, "Uncommon Man" has
what it takes to make overused sounds and influences seem new again."

String-A-Longs --Hits of the String-A-Longs, including Jimmy's composition "Wheels," which
sold 16 1/2 million records and was recorded by more than 150 artists by 1964.
The music is early rock 'n roll with the hallmark Torres guitarwork and Magnatone
amplifier.
